What's On in Andover | Andover Film Club Celebrate Chaplin | Andover & VillagesAndover Film Club have reprinted a newspaper which first appeared in April 1955 to celebrate the return of Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times to the Rex cinema and are due to make it available town again in April.

The Andover Modern Times was a one-off edition printed by the manager of the Rex, Martin Loveridge, during the national newspaper strike of that year.

The 8-page broadsheet which was discovered whilst researching the club's Picture Mad book is a mixture of general news, hints and tips and features articles about the then-present and past of Andover with contributions by amongst others Derek Tempero and H.W. Earney. It also contains adverts from Lynn’s, Macklins, Lovells Dairy and Dugey’s stating that their goods and services are 'fit for modern times.' There's even an account of a Rex staff member working with Chaplin and a telegram from Chaplin himself wishing the Rex cinema well with their screening.

The Andover Modern Times will be released to the public on Saturday 1st April at the Library between 10am-1pm and will cost £1. To mark the reprinting the club are screening Chaplin's Modern Times on Tuesday 25th April, 8pm at the Hayward Suite at the Wolversdene Club.Tickets are £6.50.
