Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) will be celebrating 10 years of providing a life-saving service to the community with a free entry Family Fun Day on Saturday 1st July from 10am – 4pm at Thruxton Motorsport Centre, Andover, SP11 8PW.
On July 1st 2007 Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance undertook its first operational flight. At the time, the Charity operated a Bolkow 105, flying for eight hours a day, five days a week. The Air Ambulance team was made up of a pilot and two paramedics, some of whom still fly with the Charity. Today Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is one of the leading Air Ambulance charities in the UK. The Air Ambulance flies both day and night, 365 days a year, bringing an advanced Critical Care Team of paramedics and doctors to the scene of an incident within minutes, ready to deliver the same level of care, and equipment similar to that which you would expect from a hospital emergency department.
HIOWAA CEO Alex Lochrane commented ‘Our 10th Birthday Family Fun Day is a celebration of our life-saving service and how far it has evolved over the past ten years, as well as an opportunity for us to raise vital funds for the future.’
The Fun Day promises entertainment for all the family, including a Fun Fair, Circus Performers, Vintage Vehicles, Fire Engines, a Dog Show and Face Painting. There will also be an opportunity to meet the some of the HIOWAA Critical Care Team, who will be on hand to talk about their life-saving work, and to see the Air Ambulance.
