Hampshire County Council To Host Great Get Together Tea Party In Memory of Jo Cox MPHampshire County Council will host a Great Get Together event this weekend (Sunday, 18 June) at the Great Hall in Winchester – one of thousands of events nationwide inspired by Jo Cox MP who was killed on 16 June last year.

More than 100,000 events are expected to be held across the UK, encouraging communities to come together to share food and celebrate unity.

Chairman of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Graham Burgess, said: “We have invited representatives from across Hampshire to join us for an afternoon tea to commemorate the life of the late Jo Cox MP, and celebrate her values, which are that communities have a far more in common than that which divides them.”

Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Roy Perry added: “Hampshire has a rich and diverse population, representing various different faiths and cultures - and of which we are justly proud. Our ‘Great Get Together’ event in Winchester seeks to capture all the elements of community life that unite us across Hampshire and beyond – in this unique national celebration.”

Ahead of the event at the Great Hall, the Chairman and Leader of Hampshire County Council will attend the Annual County Service at Winchester Cathedral, where they will be joined by Armed Forces families, representatives from interfaith organisations, and local schoolchildren.

A collection box will be available at the Great Hall for anyone wishing to donate to the Jo Cox Foundation.
