What's On | Military Wives Choir Celebrate & Commemorate | Andover & VillagesWith the release of their third album, an exclusive 100th Birthday Party Performance and their annual fundraising event, the Middle Wallop Military Wives Choir have a lot to celebrate this week!

Local resident Freda Riste, who turned 100 on Tuesday, was treated to an exclusive performance by the Middle Wallop Military Wives Choir at the Harrier Grange Care Home. Freda was born on 3rd July 1918 . 100 years on, friends gathered to help her celebrate her very special birthday.

1918 was also the year that saw the end of the First World War and series of commemorative events are planned throughout 2018 to mark the centenary. They include the release, last Thursday, of the Military Wives Choir Third Album entitled “Remember”.

In November, ladies from the military communities in and around Andover travelled to London to record the new album. They are delighted to hear the news that it has shot straight to number One in the Classical Album Charts.

Clare Ellard, Middle Wallop’s Choir Lead said “We are all thrilled to see the album’s rapid success and look forward to performing tracks from it locally over the coming months. We were particularly pleased to be singing for Freda and her friends at her very Special Birthday Party on Tuesday – She is a very remarkable lady.”

“I love music and very much enjoyed listening to the choir- top marks to the ladies!”said Freda.

Many of you may have heard of the Military Wives Choir (MWC) through the flagship number one single Wherever You Are which created an unprecedented level of public empathy for military wives and partners in 2011.

Since this point, the Military Wives Choir Foundation has become a charity supporting a network of over 70 Military Wives Choirs across British Military bases in the UK and overseas. They aim to bring women in the military community together through singing, whatever their military connection, and make a positive difference to women’s lives by improving well-being, building friendships and developing skills in the process.

“We end our celebratory week on Thursday evening with an exciting Italian Fashion fundraising event at the Lion in Clanville, which we hope local residents will support” said Clare”. The new album can be purchased at the event, or through Amazon and further details of Thursday’s event can be found at: - https://www.facebook.com/events/1929719503745506/?ti=icl
