  • Written by Editor

Local Andover News | Police Issue Advice on Doorstep Crime | Andover & VillagesIn recent months, there has been an increase of doorstep crime in the Hampshire area.

Hampshire Police have issued advice to the public to increase knowledge and understanding of the crime.

Doorstep Crime often occurs when callers knock on an address offering work. This work is usually unnecessary and/or overcharged. To decrease your risk of becoming a victim:

Lock all doors, if you can, use a chain or a spy hole.

Stop any unknown people from entering your home.

Tell us about unwanted or suspicious callers.

Never employ passing traders.

Ask older people to arrange passwords for unexpected callers.

Identify a trusted neighbour, friend or relative that can keep an eye out for whats going on if you can.

If you feel threatened call 999.

Report doorstep criminals or suspicious behaviour on 101.

Visit hampshire.police.uk for more information.

If you would like to remain anonymous you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
