Police Warn of Rogue Traders in the Area

  • Written by Editor

Local News | Police Warn of Rogue Traders in the Area | Andover & VillagesWe are reminding people to be vigilant following a suspected rogue trader incident in Kingsclere.

At around 10am on Wednesday 14 June, a man called at an address in Greenlands Road.

He told the resident, an 82-year-old woman, that £900 was owed for roofing repairs. The woman said no money was owed and the man left.

The man returned at around midday and introduced himself as working for the council, and claimed again that the woman owed £900 for roofing repairs.

However, when the woman said she needed to contact a family member, the man left.

He is described as:

• White

• Aged in his late 30s or early 40s

• Clean shaven

• Wore a baseball cap

• Possibly driving a white transit-style van

PCSO Freya Batchelor said: “Were you in this area at the time? Did you notice anything suspicious, or remember seeing a man matching the description given?”

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting 44170225951.

Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind people about how to protect themselves from potential rogue traders by using the following advice:

• Always use the door chain when answering the door. If you are not sure, don’t open the door

• Always check the credentials of unknown callers. Do not use the phone number on the back of the ID card, use a phone book instead

• Never employ cold-calling doorstep traders

• Consider joining or setting up a No Cold Calling Zone or Neighbourhood Watch scheme

• Report any suspicious callers or activity to the police.
