Fake Money Being Used Across Andover Businesses

  • Written by Editor

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in relation to the use of fake money in Amesbury.

Yesterday afternoon (Thursday 5 April) a man attempted to pay for goods at a number of businesses in the High Street with a forged Scottish £50 note. He wasn't successful at most, however at one business he managed to use it to buy two bottles of soft drink and made off with £45 in legal tender.

There are also reports of similar incidents in the Bourne Valley area, with a £50 note being used to buy two glasses of coke at the Bourne Valley Inn in St Mary Bourne, a similar incident reported at the George and Dragon in Hurstbourne Tarrant and other incidents in Whitchurch.

He is described as 5'9" tall, slim with blonde hair and clean shaven; he was wearing a black baseball cap, a hooded top with writing on the front, blue jeans and white trainers.

A CCTV image of a man police would like to speak to in relation to these incidents is attached.

PC James Osment said: "We'd like to warn businesses in the area to be extra vigilant when dealing with notes, especially if you're handed a £50 one. "If you recognise this man or if someone matching his description attempts to buy an item from your business - please call us. "Also, if you were approached by this man or saw someone matching this description - acting suspiciously in the Amesbury area yesterday - please contact me."

If you can help with our enquiries please contact PC James Osment on 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
