Salisbury CID are investigating a number of suspicious fires which occurred overnight Friday 18 and into the early hours of Saturday 19 November 2016.
Between 1.38 am and 4.40 am, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service dealt with nine incidents, with crews attending from Salisbury, Amesbury, Wilton and Andover. Over the course of today, officers have been supporting Crime Scene Investigators and Detectives who have been working at the locations to gather evidence.
Vehicles on garage forecourts in Churchfields Industrial Estate, Old Sarum Airfield and Bulford Road, Durrington were targeted along with vehicles in residential areas such as Holders Road, Countess Road and Mill Way, Amesbury and Winterslow Road, Porton.
An aircraft was also discovered burnt out at Old Sarum Airfield.
A 26 year old man from Amesbury was arrested early this morning on suspicion of Arson and remains in custody at Melksham Police Station.
DC Ian Day said: "All the vehicles were unoccupied at the time of the fires and no one was injured however the damage caused is significant and is likely to run over £100,000. We are treating the fires as suspicious and believe that the vehicles were deliberately set alight. We have made an arrest but I would like to appeal for any witnesses to come forward as they may be able to assist our investigation."
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Ian Day at Salisbury CID on 101. Or call Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 where details may be left anonymously if preferred.
