All Highways improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

The M3 in Surrey and Hampshire reopened as a smart motorway on Monday 31 July. The hard shoulder has been converted to a new fourth traffic lane in each direction on a 13.4 mile section of the motorway between junction 4a for Farnborough and junction 2 for the M25, and cutting-edge technology sets the speed limit to match conditions, helps spot any queuing traffic, incidents or broken down vehicles, and informs drivers about conditions ahead.

Major maintenance being carried out alongside the project is also substantially complete, but some activities - including the rebuilding of the Woodlands Lane Bridge over the M3 near Windlesham - will continue until later in the year.

The M3 junction 2 southbound slip road to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am on Monday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via: Continue on the M3 southbound to junction 3 turn around and enter the M3 northbound then exit the M3 at junction 2 on to the M25 clockwise

The M3 junction 2 southbound link road to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am on Monday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via: Continue on the M3 southbound to junction 3 turn around and enter the M3 northbound then exit the M3 at junction 2 on to the M25 anti-clockwise

The M3 junction 4 southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am on Monday 4 December for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via: Continue on the M3 junction 4a turn around and exit the M3 at junction 4 northbound

The M3 junction 4 southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am on Monday 4 December for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via: M3 junction 4 to the A331 to the A327 to the M3 junction 4a southbound

The M3 main carriageway northbound between junction 4 exit slip road and junction 4 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am on Wednesday 6 December for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via: Leave M3 junction 4 northbound and re-enter the M3 at junction 4 northbound

The M3 junction 4 to 3 northbound including junction 4 entry slip and junction 3 exit slip will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am on Friday 8 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via: M3 junction 4 to A331 to A30 to A322 to the M3 junction 3 northbound

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: bridge strengthening

Work to maintain journeys by repairing the bridge supports continues this week. Narrow lanes will be in place 24/7 on the roundabout beneath the M3 until March 2018.

M4 junction 7 Maidenhead, Berkshire: electrical

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs at the junction takes place this week. The westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 7 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8/9 and return.

M4 junction 8/9 Maidenhead, Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the junction 8/9 roundabout finishes this week. The roundabout, east and westbound slip roads, A308(M), A404(M) southbound from junction 9b to the M4 and the A404(M) northbound from the M4 to junction 9a will be closed overnight, between midnight and 6am, until Wednesday 6 December. Clearly signed diversions will be in place with the primary route to get between Maidenhead/the A404 and the M4 going via the A308 and A332.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: bridge reconstruction

Work to improve journeys by refurbishing the bridge that carries the link roads over the M4 continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place on the slip roads and a 50mph speed limit is in place on the M4 carriageway until February 2018.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham to 11 Reading, Berkshire: bridge maintenance

Work to improve journeys by replacing the waterproofing material in the bridge which carries the M4 over the River Loddon continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place on the east and westbound carriageways until March 2018.

In addition, lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Thursday 21 December (Monday to Friday only).

M4 junctions 12 Theale to 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: bridge refurbishment

Work to improve journeys by refurbishing a series of bridges that carry the M4 over local roads continues this week. 24 hour narrow lane, 50mph speed limit and overnight lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound carriageways until July 2018.

In addition, the M4 east and westbound carriageways between junctions 12 and 13 will be closed for the entire weekend period from 9pm on Friday 8 through to Monday 11 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4.

Long distance drivers are advised to use alternatives routes via the M25, M40, M3 and A34 to avoid the area.

M4 junction 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire to 15 Swindon, Wiltshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the M4 near Baydon continues this week. The M4 westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 4 December for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A338 to Hungerford, west along the A4 to Marlborough, then north on the A346 towards Swindon.

In addition, lane closures will be in place on the westbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Friday 8 December.

M4 westbound road closures will then resume overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 11 December for 3 nights.

Access to Membury Services (Welcome Break) will be unavailable during full road closures works.

M27 junction 12 Portsmouth, Hampshire: bridge refurbishment

Work to improve journeys by refurbishing a bridge at the junction 12 Paulsgrove Interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on the M27 east and westbound carriageways until March 2018.

The link from the M27 eastbound carriageway to the M275 southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, until Wednesday 6 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M27 eastbound carriageway to the Eastern Road roundabout, around the junction joining the A27 westbound carriageway to access the M275.

A3(M) Bedhampton, Hampshire: street lighting

Work to improve journeys by maintaining the street lighting along the A3(M) continues this week. The A3(M) southbound carriageway will be closed from junction 3 to junction 5 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 22 December (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B2150 and Bedhampton Hill.

A3 Weston, Hampshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to maintain journeys by undertaking bridge joint replacement at the Weston junction takes place this week. The A3 northbound carriageway at the junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 4 December for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B2070 and A272 to re-join the A3 at the Sheet Link/Midhurst junction. Road users will also be able to join the A3 northbound carriageway from the A272 Berelands junction.

A3 Milford, Surrey: electrical

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs at the Milford Interchange takes place this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 6 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Thursley junction and return.

A3 Guildford, Surrey: resurfacing

Work to improve road user’s journeys by resurfacing a section of the A3 southbound carriageway near the Onslow area of Guildford takes place this week. The A3 southbound carriageway will be closed from the A25 Stoke Interchange to the B3000 Compton junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 5 December for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion in place via Guildford, the A31 and the B3000.

A31 Sturminster Marshall to Bere Regis, Dorset: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing areas of the A31 near Bere Regis and Stag Gates starts this week. The A31 east and westbound carriageways will be closed between the A350 Roundhouse Roundabout and the A35 Bere Regis Roundabout overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 4 December for 14 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A350 and A34.

A34 Litchfield to Beacon Hill, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the A34 northbound carriageway continues this week. The A34 northbound carriageway will be closed from the A303 (Bullington) to Tot Hill overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 15 December (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A303 eastbound, Basingstoke, and north on the A339 towards Newbury.

A34 Hinksey Hill (Oxford), Oxfordshire: electrical

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs at the A423 Hinksey Hill Interchange takes place this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 5 December. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

A303 Bullington to Popham, Hampshire: drainage

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the drainage system along the A303 continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the A303 east and westbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 22 December (Monday to Friday only).

A303 Andover, Hampshire: bridge refurbishment

Work to improve journeys by refurbishing the bridge which carries the A303 over the local road at Picket Twenty continues this week. The A303 westbound carriageway will be closed from the A3093 Picket Twenty junction to the A3057 Winchester Road junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 4 December for two weeks (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place around Andover via the A3093, Northern Avenue, Redon Way, Churchill Way West and the A343.

A404 Burchetts Green, Berkshire: electrical

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs at the Henley Road junction takes place this week. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Bisham Roundabout.
