Cllr Carl Borg-Neal recently visited BP Rolls at their premises on West Portway Industrial Estate, as one of his final Mayoral engagements as the Mayor of Test Valley.
Established in Andover since 1966, the company occupies five units on Hopkinson Way and employs over 100 people from Andover and the surrounding area. Cllr Borg-Neal was given a guided tour of the whole site, comprising of an accident repair centre, commercial vehicle repair and paint shop, vehicle signs and graphics print studio, and finally the automotive workshop, before an exclusive look at their new premises, which is currently undergoing renovation before opening later this year.
In the Automotive workshop, Cllr Borg-Neal was shown the MOT testing bays, certified by VOSA to test all classes of motorbike and vehicles up to CLASS 7, and also given a demonstration of their CitNow software which allows the customer service team to share videos with customers, giving them live footage of their car while in the workshop.
He was also introduced to the company’s two youngest members of staff, apprentices Charlie Candy and Jo Keating, both students of Andover College. Jo is the only female Vehicle Technician at BP Rolls, and has an exemplary record of achievement, having scored no less than 85% on any of her college assessments.
The Mayor commented on his visit: “It was a really interesting visit to BP Rolls; I had no idea of the scale of their operation. As well as the accident repair centre which caters for a large number of insurance repairs every week, I was also amazed to see the size of the commercial vehicle facilities – with spray booths and ovens large enough to house a double decker bus.
"In the automotive workshop I was impressed to see how they have invested in new technologies such as the video sharing. It was interesting to hear about their staff training programmes, and also meet the apprentices; I was delighted to see a female vehicle technician. It’s great to see a local business thriving!”
