The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 8 June but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 5 Hook to 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the M3 takes place this week. The M3 southbound carriageway will be closed from junction 5 to junction 7 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 12, Wednesday 13 and Friday 15 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A30.

M3 junctions 7 Basingstoke to 9 Winchester, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the M3 takes place this week. The M3 southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 11 and Thursday 14 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A34 and A303.

M4 junctions 5 Slough to 12 Reading, Berkshire: technology maintenance

Work to maintain technology assets on M4 between junctions 5 and 12 starts this week. Lane closures will be in place in multiple areas between these two junctions overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 11 June for five nights.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: street lighting

Work to improve journeys by maintaining the street lighting at junction 10 continues this week. The slip from the M4 eastbound carriageway to the A329(M) will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Tuesday 19 June (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8/9 and return.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham to 11 Reading, Berkshire: bridge maintenance

Work to improve journeys by replacing the waterproofing material in the bridge which carries the M4 over the River Loddon continues this week. The M4 westbound carriageway between junctions 10 and 11 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 11 June for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A329(M) and Lower Earley Way.

M4 junctions 12 Theale to 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: bridge refurbishment

Work to improve journeys by refurbishing a series of bridges that carry the M4 over local roads continues this week. 24 hour narrow lane, 50mph speed limit and overnight lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound carriageways until July.

M27 junction 1 Cadnam, Hampshire: bridge joint replacement

Works to replace the joints of the bridges which carry the M27 over the roundabout at junction 1 continues this week. The M27 eastbound carriageway will be closed between the slip roads at junction 1 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 11 June for 8 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place down and across the junction.

M27 junction 4 Chilworth, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the links at the M27/M3 interchange starts this week. The link from the M27 westbound carriageway to the M3 northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 15 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 3 and return.

A404(M) junction 9b Maidenhead, Berkshire: bridge repairs

Work to maintain journeys by replacing the bridge joint and carrying out repairs to the concrete of the bridge which carries the A404(M) over Cannon Lane continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph will be in place on the northbound and southbound carriageways near junction 9b until August.

A31 Ferndown, Dorset: road markings

Work to improve journeys for road users by renewing the road markings along the A31 in Dorset takes place this week. The A31 east and westbound carriageways between the Canford Bottom junction and the Palmersford roundabout will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Wimborne Road East/West.

A31 Wimborne Minster, Dorset: road markings

Work to improve journeys for road users by renewing the road markings along the A31 in Dorset takes place this week. The A31 east and westbound carriageways between the Canford Bottom junction and the Merley roundabout will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 11 June for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Ham Lane, Ringwood Road and A341 Magna Road.

A34 Newbury, West Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the A34 northbound carriageway continues this week. The A34 northbound carriageway will be closed from the A4 Speen junction to Chieveley overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 12 June for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4 into Newbury then north on the A339.

In addition, the A34 northbound carriageway near Chieveley will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 14 June for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Chieveley and Beedon.

A34 South Hinksey (Oxford), Oxfordshire: lay-by

Works to improve safety by converting a lay-by near South Hinksey starts this week. The A34 southbound carriageway will be closed from the A420 Botley Interchange to the A423 Hinksey Hill junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 11 June for four weeks (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Oxford ring-road.

Safety at roadworks

Highways England is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads. For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:

Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety.

Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching.

Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks.

Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks.

Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front.

Observe all signs – they are there to help you.

And be alert for road workers, the roads are their workplace.
