Walking for Health

  • Written by Editor

Health News | Walking for health | Andover & VillagesTest Valley Borough Council is looking for volunteers to lead a series of Health Walks in Andover.

The authority is hosting a day’s training session on Wednesday, 25 October for anyone wishing to help others to become more active through Health Walks. The national Walking for Health initiative, which aims to encourage more people to exercise, enables participants to see the beautiful countryside and enjoy some fresh air.

Community and Leisure Portfolio Holder, Councillor Tony Ward, said: “Our Health Walks are extremely popular and they are a great way to keep active. They are informal, social and the group leader keeps everyone together regardless of fitness levels and abilities. We are now looking for more volunteers to join the team so that the walks can continue to go ahead. It is incredibly rewarding and it looks great on the CV!”

The training takes place from 9.30am to 4.30pm and covers topics such as establishing walk routes, leading a group of varying abilities and health and safety considerations. No experience is necessary. Anyone interested in finding out more should visit www.testvalley.gov.uk/healthwalks.

Health Walks also take place in Romsey, Wellow, North Baddesley, Stockbridge and Valley Park among others.
