With summer a seemingly distant memory, we pulled up into the Commercial Centre car park. The sound of Jake Ward singing ‘Feeling Good’ did sincerely make me feel good, as the clouds looked like they were going to burst. His soothing voice, excellent pitch and superb audience interaction put everyone in a good mood.
He continued with ‘Wide World’, ‘Kissing a Fool’, which my friend adored because she is obsessed with George Michael, although Jake’s singing alone was enough for her to adore! From ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ to ‘How Sweet it is to be Loved by You’ and on to ‘Sway’, made Jake’s set the perfect finish to the perfect start of the rest of the day.
Once all the other acts had performed, Jake returned to do a short, three-song, goodbye set. But before he started, he united the crowd in singing Happy Birthday to Simon, who is turning 40 on Monday (I wonder if he appreciates me broadcasting it to the world?)
Jake started his final three song set with Mack the knife. Towards the end of the song, he sat on the stage, drawing the buzzing crowd in. He sang as though every song were written for him. He really is a great performer! Thanks again, Jake.
