Spoken Word Festival In Test Valley Primary Schools - Do You Want To Get Involved?

  • Written by Lucy

andover school news | spoken word festival | Andover & VillagesTest Valley Arts Foundation, with sponsorship from BeWiser in Andover, are supporting local spoken word artist, Cat Randle, with her vision for a Spoken Word Festival in several Test Valley primary schools. The aims are to give primary school children in years 3 -6, a means to provide spiritual, moral, cultural and artistic development and self esteem by creating and seeing their words in electronic print and communicating to the community.

Initially Cat would like the project to be piloted in 8 schools / education environments, including the home school network and special schools, to ensure inclusivity for all and to give children opportunities for self expression through writing. She is calling for Test Valley schools to take part. "I am excited," says Cat Randle. "This project is a new and fun way to look at English and will help students improve their literacy and boost confidence.”

With the aid of a spoken word artist, the event will commence with a writing competition which includes poetry, prose, flash fiction and short skits and the schools themselves will judge the entries by popular vote. All the winners from the schools will be displayed and performed at The Lights in Andover and an i-book anthology will be created to provide an affordable teaching tool to schools that can be used as part of Key Stage 1 as the reading and spelling words will be included as part of the contest.

It is anticipated that this project will commence in June and develop throughout the next academic year. Ultimately it is hoped that this will develop into an annual spoken word celebration. If you/your school is interested in taking part, please contact Cat Randle on 07841032093 or by emailing her at: This email address is being protected from spambots.
