Three students from Winton Community Academy entered the 2017 Rotary Youth Speaks Competition. Our debate team, Roman Pitman, Luis Wyatt, Tom Yates, Year 10 students supported by Miss Evans, English teacher. Thousands of youngsters take part every year in the youth competitions which in most cases take the form of regional heats followed by a national final. The majority are categorised into junior, intermediate and advanced age groups.
Students succeeded in bringing the Rotary Youth Speaks heat one trophy back to Winton for the first time since 1991. Speaking on the subject of how terrorism affects us, the team beat other local schools to secure the best team award, with Roman Pitman also picking up the trophy for the best individual speaker.
