4,489,502 Winton Steps for Sports Relief

  • Written by Editor

Education News | 4,489,502 Winton Steps for Sports Relief | Andover & VillagesInspired by Winton's weekly 3km school run and the first school trip all students experience at Winton, Year 7 & 8 students were set a challenge to run the distance from Andover to the Natural History Museum in London.

Over ten weeks various routes were mapped out, the school run, offside tracks including Lady's Walk, orienteering and obstacle courses.

Each week the distances were calculated and the team flags were moved along the map as teams edged closer to the finishing line. For some it was also a Geography lesson and students could be heard stating 'we're at Dummer now or we've made it to Hartley Witney.

On Friday 23rd March the results were announced and students had collectively run 2137.4km and recorded 2.803.150 steps… But we couldn't just leave it there. As part of Sports Reliefs aim to get the nation to complete the 1 billion steps challenge, all students in Year 7 - 10 and staff were set the task of completing 3 laps of the school run in 30 minutes.

In total, we have completed 3422km and 4,489,502 steps! Which is equivalent to travelling from Andover to Antakya in Turkey.

A huge well done to all students and staff who did so well for such a worthy charity and raised a grand total of £319.00.

"Seeing so many students actively taking part in the event was amazing" Mr Ashworth - PE Teacher

"Some students took the role of setting pace, some running with others to motivate and support. An amazing effort by so many students" Miss K Webb - Assistant Head Teacher
